OLENTANGY ORANGE WRESTLING

ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS - PIONEERS

Year 4 - Girls Compete in First OHSAA State Tournament
This season, girls wrestling moved from OHSWCA to OHSAA championship status at the Schottenstein Center, and it was an event anchored in the minds of all the athletes. The team scored 69 points and finished as state runner-up to 2x champion Harrison. Additionally, the girls won their second straight dual meet state state title, winning three state duals to secure the championship.
This past season, the Pioneers once again finished undefeated at 14-0 in dual meets and won their third consecutive district/regional title, outscoring 70 other teams and defeating Warren HS, 221-106. At the state tournament, the seven state qualifiers and placers were: Josie Nickoloff (115), Alicia Coleman (4th at 135), Surraiya Mahmud (8th at 145), Lydia Heinrich (5th at 155), Kascidy Garren (5th at 170), Talia Mitchell (5th at 190) and Jenny Huaracha-Arellanos (235). Freshman Camille Ramey was a state alternate at 100 lbs.
Over the last two seasons, the team, wrestlers and coaches have racked up recognition. Three wrestlers received first team all-metro recognition: Coleman, Mitchell and Huaracha-Arellanos. In addition to the entire team receiving Academic All-Ohio (team GPA of 3.35), five athletes received Individual Academic All-Ohio (state qualifier plus 3.5 GPA): Coleman, Garren, Mahmud, Heinrich and Mitchell. Coach Oswalt also was named the Dispatch All-Metro Coach-of-the-Year.
